    Summary

    The Director of Children's Ministry is a full-time position responsible for providing administrative, and spiritual oversight for the children’s ministry, serving children in the church. This position includes oversite of the nursery and all other children through 5th grade. This role reports directly to the Senior Pastor and collaborates with church staff and volunteers to foster a vibrant, Christ-centered environment for children and parents.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    The Director of Children's Ministry is tasked with advancing the church’s mission as outlined in the First Baptist Church of Bushnell’s Constitution and Bylaws, adhering to the church’s Policy and Procedure Manual. The Director must remain attentive to the spiritual and physical needs of the church community, maintaining conduct that reflects strong Christian character. Additional duties may be assigned by the Senior Pastor or Personnel Committee. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Program Development and Leadership
      • Design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive children’s ministry aligned with the church’s vision.
      • Conduct, organize and lead vacation Bible school yearly 
      • Develop programs that welcome and spiritually nurture new members, addressing their unique needs.
      • Promote the children’s ministry within the church and community, fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).
      • Monitor the effectiveness of children’s programs, proposing improvements as needed.
      • Advocate for the needs and growth of the children’s ministry within the church.
    • Safety and Compliance
      • Enforce safety protocols, including first aid, CPR, and required training for staff and volunteers.
      • Maintain an up-to-date records system for children’s contact information and participation.
    • Spiritual Guidance
      • Lead, counsel, and mentor children in their Christian growth and development.
      • Communicate the Gospel clearly and effectively to children and families.
    • Collaboration and Communication
      • Work closely with pastoral staff to coordinate and enhance all church ministries.
      • Schedule and lead regular planning meetings with children’s ministry leaders, ensuring clear communication with staff, volunteers, and parents.
      • Seek guidance from lay leadership and pastors when needed.
    • Volunteer and Resource Management
      • Recruit, train, and support volunteers for the children’s ministry.
      • Coordinate facility use for children’s activities in collaboration with church administration.
      • Manage and report expenses responsibly, adhering to budgetary guidelines.
    • Community and Church Engagement
      • Participate in church-wide outreach, special events, and activities related to the children’s ministry.
      • Extend the ministry’s impact into local schools and the broader community.

    Qualifications

    The Director of Children's Ministry must be a born-again Christian with a deep commitment to the salvation and spiritual growth of children. The candidate should exhibit strong Christian character, an active prayer and devotional life, and a close relationship with God. Key qualities include:

    • Ability to teach the Gospel clearly and engage children effectively.
    • Patience, flexibility, and strong organizational skills to meet the needs of children and families.
    • Willingness to seek guidance from church leadership when necessary.

    Education and Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree in education, ministry, or a related field is preferred.
    • Prior experience in children’s ministry or related work is strongly preferred.
    • Training in First Aid and CPR is required within six months of hire.

    Language Skills

    The Director must communicate effectively with children, parents, and church staff, maintaining an even temperament and responding appropriately to children at their level.

    Physical Demands

    The role requires physical stamina and the ability to:

    • Bend, squat, sit on the floor, reach overhead, stand on a ladder, and lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Maintain general good health and physical fitness.
    • Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed for ministry activities.
